After about 35 years of ownership and untold thousands of miles I decided to give my ‘83 ST500 a refresh, and to give my old damaged knees a break I went on to add an eZee front hub motor. I just retired and want to do some touring. I hope you like it!
Getting parts was a long story which I’ll spare you, but now the only original components are the frame, seatpost, and derailleurs.
eZee front freewheel, 48V 19Ah battery, Fischer AG BB. With the CA3 dialed in it feels very natural, even with assist maxed out. With low assist (about 0.7x, just enough to keep my knees from yelling at me) on a rails-to-trails path, unloaded I made 44 km using only 3.1 Ah. In a couple of months I plan to be in the mountains to see how far I can get when geared up for a tour. I’ll be happy if I can make 50 miles, if not I’ll start thinking about a solar trailer.
