This Rad Power RadWagon v3 arrived as a donation after suffering catastrophic motor failure — the original factory motor tore its power cables out due to reverse torque and lack of proper maintenance. Working with @alnwright, we decided to bring it back to life with a complete @grin_tech conversion, giving it new functionality and extended service life.

Rebuild Configuration:

Motor: Grin RH212 direct-drive hub motor – durable, regen-capable replacement for the failed stock motor

Controller: Grin Baserunner – integrated with modular wiring for clean installation

Display: Grin Cycle Analyst V3 – full programmability, regenerative braking setup, advanced ride metrics

Battery: 48V lithium pack (paired with Cycle Analyst for monitoring and tuning)

Upgrades: Custom rear footboards (installed by the new owner, Grant) for passenger/cargo use

Performance & Functionality:

Full programmability via Cycle Analyst, including regen braking and custom ride profiles

Increased durability compared to the stock Bafang-based system

Utility-focused setup ready for heavy cargo and family hauling

Estimated build value ~$3,500 if replicated for resale

Now nicknamed the “BadWagon” (or GrinWagon v3), this rebuild proves that older RadWagons can be not only saved but improved. It’s ready for daily use — from hauling kids to school to errands across Boston — and stands as an example of how Grin systems can give second life to failed factory e-bikes.
