  • $1000 of additional prizes on Aug 21st

We announced that we'd be doing it in July but stuff happens, so that date has been kicked back to Aug 21st. We're going to celebrate our customers that Friday by handing out the following awards:

4x $100 in store credits that we will draw from a hat.  Everyone who has uploaded a project this year with 5 or more images and / or at least 2 paragraphs of text will be eligible and in the pool.

Winners will have the option of either a $200 customer credit that they can use right away, or a 20% off coupon they can use for a future order.

So if you have an earlier submission you want to polish up with more photos, or a new build that you haven't had time to share yet, get it in fast! You have until 8am Aug 21st to get it in .

Loadrunner in Full Release

Published: August 8, 2026

After the short teaser in June, we're glad to announce that the Loadrunner electric wheelbarrow kit is now in full production and receiving glowing feedback from our early customers.   Mounting the kit is a snap, the powertool battery option is widely appreciated, and the installation tidyness is next level compared to what we had before.

As usual we'll let the video do the talking!

{{widget type="Grin\YouTubeWidget\Block\Widget\YouTube" video_url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ok9UbngYVaM" class="None" width="800" caption="1" new_page="0" loop="0" related_videos="0" allow_full_screen="1" add_description="0" image_quality="maxresdefault" enable_snippet="0" comments="Wheelbarrow release vid"}}

The kits are now shipping now, either with a self contained 36V LiGo battery assembly, or to run of two of your own 18V powertool packs.

We first discussed this wheelbarrow motor in a youtube teardown video back in 2020 but at the time we didn't do a head to head comparison with other wheelbarrow hub motors.  Well we've finally done that too with a steep ramp test and you can see how mch it validates this choice of hub.

More details, specs, and downloads related to the loadrunner kit can be found on our new Loadrunner info page.

An Update on the Magic

Published: July 18, 2026

It was a treat to meet up with so many people at the Eurobike trade show, both to share Grin's unique product offerings and to further preview the development of Magic Drive and Freegen motor systems.

{{widget type="Grin\GalleryWidget\Block\Widget\Gallery" folder="wysiwyg/news/2026/Eurobike" gallery="Eurobike2026" order="name" height="150"}}

A notable aspect of this Eurobike show was how central alternative drivetrains were being featured across the floor. CIXI's PERS pedal generator drive holding center stage outdoors, while several large brands (DJI/Avinox,  GOBAO) inside were revealing bottom bracket power split eCVTs. Grin is excited to play a role in making this tech accessible to DIYers in the years ahead.

Just before leaving, we dropped a video update on what's happened with the Freegen project, and also discussed this in a lengthy podcast with Gary of the Laidback Bike Report.  Have a look.

What an amazing event last weekend.  Thanks to everyone who came by either to say hi, to check out the demonstrations, to show off their own ebike, or just to hang out. We had visitors not just from Vancouver and Vancouver Island, but even as far as Oregon.  Aside from a few tumbles in our first-ever electric wheelbarrow race track, it couldn't have gone better.

The Loadrunner is finally here

The Loadrunner: Updated, New Wheelbarrow Kit, Now on Presale!

This is the new Loadrunner!

Electric wheelbarrows are one of those landscaping, garden, and jobsite tools that make you wonder how you ever lived without one.

Moving soil, mulch, gravel, compost, tools, and firewood across a yard or worksite is hard enough. Add a slope, a long driveway, soggy ground or a full day of hauling, and suddenly your humble wheelbarrow starts feeling less like a helpful tool and more like a personal fitness challenge you did not sign up for.

That is exactly why we built The Loadrunner: our updated, purpose-built electric wheelbarrow kit. Conveniently powered by LiGo batteries or your favourite brand of 18V powertool packs.

Check out the Video below for full details!

{{widget type="Grin\YouTubeWidget\Block\Widget\YouTube" video_url="https://youtu.be/pb2i7X7QE_s" class="None" width="600px" expand="800px" caption="0" new_page="0" loop="0" related_videos="0" allow_full_screen="1" add_description="0" image_quality="maxresdefault" enable_snippet="0" comments="This needs a special link to work with shorts."}}
See how easy it is to install this on any wheelbarrow and power it with the batteries you already have in your toolkit. Check out the YouTube video Short here to see the final result!

Presales Are On — Save 20%

Our parts production is now being queued up, with deliveries expected to start at the end of June.
That means now is the time to order while the Loadrunner is still in presale.

Get your Wheelbarrow Kit Today at 20% off!

Use coupon code LOADMEUP at checkout to get 20% off.

This presale discount is valid until June 15th.

Try It at the Grin Open House

Curious about how they handle in real life? We will have a number of electrified wheebarrows at our upcoming Grin Open House, and will make riding them and racing them up hills and around obstacles as part of the festive afternoon activities!

So yes, come to our Open House this Saturday June 6th! For those who prefer 2 wheel cargo moving without feet on the ground, we'll arrange a little cargo championship contest among the load carrying ebikes too.

Featuring Show 'n Shine, Prizes, and Potluck at the Beach

Join us Saturday June 6th, 2:00 - 8:00 for a Grin open house, show & shine, group ride, and for a sunset potluck at the Beach!

Everyone is invited! This is a family friendly community event (we have a kid zone!) where everyone can come together to learn about DIY electric bikes and show off their cool builds. Whether you are an old afficianodo or have recently heard of Grin and are curious what we're about, this event is for you.

On Saturday, June 6th, we’re opening up Grin Technologies HQ for an afternoon of ebikes, test rides, technical demos, garage sale treasures, snacks, kids, cargo bikes, electric wheelbarrows, and wrapping up the day with a group ride to New Brighton Park for an evening at the beach.

  • Grin Technologies HQ, 1290 Odlum Drive Vancouver https://maps.app.goo.gl/kmB7KZugjkjAaGsd8

  • New Brighton Park: https://maps.app.goo.gl/EXFhgyXEwxv9Ze7KA

This is part open house, part community gathering, part test ride zoo, and part “bring that weird ebike you built and let everyone admire the clever/frightening choices you made.”

If you’ve been curious about Grin kits, family cargo bikes, electric wheelbarrows, the latest freegen and magic drive developments, or what happens when a bunch of DIY ebike people are put in the same physical location with refreshments, this is the day.

We’ve got lots going on!

Register here! https://luma.com/tii7aimk

Schedule of Events

2:00 PM — Doors Open
Come by Grin HQ, poke around, chat with the team, check out the space, and enjoy free refreshments and snacks. There will be bikes, parts, people, and likely several conversations about torque arms happening simultaneously.

3:00 PM — Magic Drive & Freegen Systems: Explanation, Q&A, and Test Rides
We’ll be doing technical explanations of the developing Magic Drive and Freegen systems, followed by Q&A and test rides. Get up-to-date about the latest inventions Grin is involved with!

4:00 PM — 15-Minute All-Axle Motor Kit Installation Demo
Watch a Grin all-axle motor kit go from loose components to installed on a normal bike in about 15 minutes! Once you have seen this done live, it will dispel every doubt you have about it getting an All-Axle for your bike! Yes, there are wires; but mostly just familiar hand tools do the trick.

4:30 PM — Show & Shine Bike Awards
Bring your ebike build and enter it in the Show & Shine. We’ll be giving out awards (your choice of store credit, products, or merch) in categories like:

  • Best Family Bike

  • Most Raincouver-proofed

  • Most Inspired

  • Cleanest Build and most Mad-Max

  • and other categories based on what actually rolls through the door!

We expect practical builds, overbuilt builds, beautiful builds, deeply strange builds, and at least one bike where someone says, “Wait, that actually works?”

5:30 PM — Group Ride to New Brighton Park
We’ll roll out from Grin HQ as a group and head to New Brighton Park.

6:00 PM — Potluck BBQ at New Brighton Park
Bring something to share, bring your kids, bring your bike, bring your appetite, and continue the ebike-geekery in a spacious park setting.

Test Ride the Grin Fleet

We’ll have a selection of Grin showpiece and demo bikes available for test rides, including builds like the Santana Tandem, Max45 Fatbikes, narrow Brompton All-Axle, Dual Motor Trikes, and Edgerunner cargo bikes.

We’re also planning to have at least 3–4 Edgerunner cargo bikes built up with rear Grin motors, available for people with kids to test ride — and potentially purchase. If you’ve been wondering whether hub motor cargo bikes are actually practical for family transportation, this is a good chance to try one with real people, real weight, and real-world handling.

Bring Your Kids

This is intended to be a family-friendly event. We’ll have cargo bikes available for family test rides, and we’re planning a kids zone with one or two adults on duty so kids have somewhere to hang out while parents talk motors, batteries, controllers, racks, trailers, rain covers, and all the other pieces of the “can this replace a car for some trips?” puzzle.

And if you've got a family ebike already, Bring your kids on the group ride and to the New Brighton Park potluck afterwards!

Garage Sale + Clearance Items

We’ll have a garage sale area with assorted items: bikes, kits, and parts that we’re clearing out. Some things are easier to sell in person than online because they’re odd, bulky, used, experimental, hard to categorize or otherwise just very Grin.

Come rummage. Sensibly.

Get Grin Merch

We’ll also have hoodies, T-Shirts, caps, and other merch available, because sometimes the most efficient drivetrain is the one attached to a person wearing a good shirt.

Electric Wheelbarrows Exist Now

We’ve also got a new and much more polished electric wheelbarrow system ready to launch, and will have these available to try out too. Everybody could use an electric wheelbarrow! Think about hills, loads, garden work, construction sites, aging backs, and the general unfairness of gravity while moving stuff around.

Come on out!

This event is for current Grin customers, prospective Grin customers, DIY builders, cargo bike families, technically curious riders, people with one normal bike and three experimental bikes, and anyone who wants to learn more about practical electric mobility from the people building and using it.

Come meet with other riders, ask questions, compare builds, test ride unusual machines and see what the Grin community has been up to.

Bring your bike, your favourite ebike build. Bring your kids. Bring your questions. And most importantly bring your cherished presence. It’s the folks like you that make Grin do what we do!

We’ll bring the snacks, motors, parts, sundry odd contraptions, and the usual deluge of cool Grin tech information!!

See you all soon!

Order Grin in Europe, from within Europe! The Launch of Grintech.eu

Published: May 15, 2026

Grin had an amazing time at the SPEZI bike show in Germany last month, and you'll see some longer form content on our channel related to that.  But this post is about the other reason we travelled to Europe:

{{widget type="Grin\YouTubeWidget\Block\Widget\YouTube" video_url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXSERjdCAQ8" class="None" width="900" caption="0" new_page="0" loop="0" related_videos="0" allow_full_screen="1" add_description="0" image_quality="maxresdefault" enable_snippet="0" comments="Grintech.eu tour video"}}

A couple years ago one of our long serving dealers from France spent several weeks with us in Vancouver to learn all the finer points of Grin's operation, repair, and support process.

Guillaume at Grin, 2024Learning Repair and Troubleshooting from the Best

His goal was to test the waters for opening up a formal Grin distribution center in France which would make it faster and easier for our Atlantic friends to access Grin goods with local support. We're pleased to say that after much effort this endeavor is now in full swing.

Link to Grintech.eu store page

The team at Grintech.eu have not only outfit a shop space and fully stocked it with Grin kit, they've also helped us through CE regulatory certifications, and did all the legal and admistriative work to create an oversease enterprise. We had a soft launch in 2025 and now in 2026 things are really moving with almost all of our motor models and kit types are in stock for quick delivery.

If you are looking for an All-Axle motor conversion kit within the the European union, check them out.
They can navigate through the kit selection process, perform installations on site, and even support business and dealer accounts for wholesale customers.

[Just keep in mind that the two operations (ebikes.ca and grintech.eu) are independent entities, your account at ebikes.ca doesn't operate at grintech.eu and visa versa, and technical support, warranty etc. is provided by the store and team you purchased from.]

Here for SPEZI 2026

Published: April 18, 2026

Hey everyone, Grin will once again be at the SPEZI bike show in Germany, which is coming up next weekend on April 25th and 26th!

It's a late notice but for those in Europe who can make it out you won't find a more dense collection of both eclectic and cutting edge bikes, trikes, and quads under one roof.   We'll be there in two capacities
1) To showcase the All-Axle motor drive platforms and LiGo 10X air travel batteries, and
2) To help Chargebike showcase the next phase of the Freegen motor project, called MagicDrive!

{{widget type="Grin\YouTubeWidget\Block\Widget\YouTube" video_url="IZBywFNMSUc" class="None" width="800" caption="0" new_page="0" loop="0" related_videos="0" allow_full_screen="1" add_description="0" image_quality="maxresdefault" enable_snippet="0" comments="Spezi Magic Preview"}}

We've had a jam-packed few weeks machining and assembling various motors and test platforms here in Vancouver that we can take to the show.

Thanks to Grintech europe, Envo, Geobike, and Chargebike for all helping us pull this together at the last minute. We can't wait to be there and meet with the many mobility innovators on the other side of the Atlantic.

Battery Sale

Battery Lineup Refresh: New Formats, Better Cells, and Some Great Clearance Deals

We've been overhauling our battery catalogue and it's time for a proper update. There's a lot to cover — new form factors, upgraded cells, better safety certifications, and some clearance pricing on outgoing models.

New Large Triangle Frame Batteries — Built Around 21700 Cells

The headline addition is a new series of triangle frame batteries in two sizes, based on the high-energy 21700 cell format. The large pack is the real showstopper: a whopping 31 Ah, 1.5 kWh (roughly 150 km of range, at an assumed 10 Wh/km) in an enclosure that's surprisingly compact. The 21700 cells pack a lot of energy into a tidy space, and the result doesn't look nearly as large as it sounds. 52v 21Ah, 72v 15Ah and 52v 31Ah

Clearance on the Large Fuel Tank Downtube Packs

With the triangle batteries taking over the maximum-range role, we're clearing out the remaining large fuel-tank-style downtube packs at reduced pricing. They're excellent batteries that have powered a lot of long-range builds, but we won't be restocking once they're gone. 72v 19Ah and 52v 29Ah

Across the board price drops and higher capacity cells

We've reduced prices across our entire battery lineup as we move to higher capacity cells. Cell technology has been marching forward and our new stock reflects that — more watt-hours for your dollar than a year ago. If you've been holding off on a battery upgrade, now is a genuinely good time.

UL2271 Certification — Now on Many Models

Regulatory certifications matters more and more, especially for riders whose insurance or building management takes an interest in what they're charging at home or work. A portion of our battery models now carry UL2271 certification to help with those who need it.

Note that this doesn't make them any safer than our non-UL listed batteries, as battery safety is almost entirely based on the cell models used in building the pack.
