Customize Grin Rear All-Axle SuperH Kit

The rear motor is available in 3 different winding speeds depending on how fast you need to go for a given wheel diameter and battery voltage. For 48V systems we recommend the slow wind for 26"-29" wheels and the standard wind for 20" wheels. For 36V batteries we recommend the standard wind for 26-29" and fast wind for 20".

The new V3 model comes with a built-in torque sensing freehub. The Shimano HG spline is the standard, while the the SRAM XD freehub option permits the use of high-end 1x cassettes with small 10T cogs.

Statorade is recommended if you anticipate using the motor on lots of hills or in cargo applications
There are a range of axle adapters available for different quick release and thru-axle fork standards.

You can get a bare hub and lace it into a suitable 32 hole rim yourself, or choose to get a professional wheelbuild done here at Grin using our stock rim selections and quality Sapim butted spokes.  Our head wheelbuilder Robert has decades of experience and is renowned for building wheels that are nearly bombproof.

If you want Grin to do the wheelbuild, be sure to select either the Silver or Black spoke option from the dropdown menu, along with your preferred rim. By default all wheels will be be dished with the rim dead center between the dropouts, if you require some special dishing offset for an oddball frame please mention that in the order comments. If you are doing your own wheelbuild into your own rim, be sure to specify the required spoke length in the order  comments


The Baserunner controller is ideal if you are getting a downtube battery as we will mount it inside the battery cradle.  The larger Phaserunner is required if you need an option that can run up to 72V, or if you are using one of the other battery models. It will also produce slightly higher peak torque due to the 90A vs 80A max phase current.

Several display options are available to show basic information like bicycle speed, motor power, trip distance etc. through communication with the motor controller. The displays also provide the on/off power switch for the system and have up/down buttons to cycle through between 3 to 9 levels of pedal-assistance.

Throttles, ebrake levers, pas sensors, and torque sensors all play a roll in how you interact with the ebike. The Torque or PAS sensor plugs in directly to the motor controller and provide assistance based on the assist level of the display, while throttle and ebrakes hook up to the Main9 Superharness. If you are confused about the PAS and Torque sensor options, please see our pedal sensor info page.  Even if you choose a PAS or Torque sensor as the primary control, we always recommend having a throttle as well. It can be handy to accelerate in tight situations and is great as a back-up if ever the pedal sensor has issues.

The kit will run with any battery pack from 24V to 52V nominal (and up to 72V with a Phaserunner).
We offer a range of batteries that will work well depending on the geometry of your bike, the range you need on a charge, and how fast you want to go.  Please see our battery info page for more details on the different pack options.   

Be sure to select a charger model that matches the voltage (36V, 48V, or 52V) and connector style (ST3 or XLR) of the chosen pack.  

If you are looking to get the kit with a pilot batch of our Air Travel friendly LiGo 10X batteries instead, don't select any battery here. Instead use the LiGo 10X battery store page to separately add the pack to your cart.
