Is there an “everything” e-bike design that can give a second car a run for the money?
I think so and this is my attempt with the following design parameters: maximum total
power under 750 watts, both front and rear wheels have seperate throttle power, cargo
capable with the ability to comfortably ride two adults, no longer than a larger regualar
bike, three season capable with rain/sun protection and enough lithium battery for a 50
mile range. The bike will have scooter/moped characteristics but still be recognized as a
bike and allowed down the bike path. At other times the bike must hold its own on the
city streets with the slower traffic.

I have included a detailedd build section with this posting showing some of the details
you might find interesting or informative. I hope some of my design ideas inspire more
bikes like this for all around use.

In front of the front rack is a pair of the previous generation Grin front headlights.
On the front of the seat tube is a previous generation Grin controller. This controller
connects to the previous generation Grin front hub motor, the Outrider. The Grin
equipment is previous generation but it is very durable and has performed well. — The “CCC” at the park.

The rear wheel uses a Bewo crank drive system connected to a Nuvinci N360 CVT rear
hub. — Rear wheel powertrain.

The left side has the throttle for the front wheel then the control pod for the turn signals,
front lights and horn. Next is the Grin version of the Ezee display/control to provide
some information and control of front power. The left side hand brakes control the front
disc brakes that also activates a rear braking light set. The right side has the rotary
shifter for the Nuvinci N360 then the throttle for the Bewo crank drive then the Bewo
display and control head. The right side hand brakes control the rear brakes and will shut
down the Bewo drive. In the middle is the stem mounted themometer. Above that is a
music player. — Intuitive controls layout using the larger Jones handlebars.

Built into the modular rear seat is a Hella battery master switch of which I have several
replacement keys for. It controls all power, this heavy bike will not go anywhere easy
without power. Note the controller for the Bewo system on the rear of the seat tube. The
chain is safely under a chain guard. — The security and start key is this removable key switch. (see arrow)

Power is supplied by a pair of All-Cell 48V 13A Lithium Packs that are each located in
the side by side pods. This pair of batteries may be used singly but usually they are
charged matched and used in parallel. Note the the rear of each pod have a running light/
turn signal attached. — Side by Side Battery Pods/Rear Passenger Foot Rests.

The top is a custom made cushion made like a sailboat cockpit cushion. The center foam
and outer casing are all marine grade. Additionally, there is a cross strap at the front of
the cushion for the rear passenger to hold to. Underneath of the rear seat the electronics
are attached in a modular fashion. — The rear passenger seat is multi purpose.

The Veltop System allows limited sun/wind/rain protection for the rider and the
passenger. This Veltop canopy is a special order for longer length to protect the rear
passenger as well as the front. Often just the front fairing is used at different heights. — The Classic Veltop System is integrated in the build.

The classic Veltop sytem has worked well for the “CCC” I do not believe that it is still
available and the newer designs could not do what I need with this style. — Veltop Canopy deployed for rain today.

With cargo bags on the front rack, a top tube bag and a large rear rack bag, this bike can
to to the grocery and bring it all home. — Several types of cargo bags are available.

The previous generation of Grin headlights are small but perfect in a pair for this bike.

Outline of the Build

I have included a detailedd build section with this posting showing some of the details
you might find interesting or informative. I hope some of my design ideas inspire more
bikes like this for all around use.

This is unique frame with incredible strength and some design characteristics that
allowed me to create the “CCC”. Note on the rear lower rack area, the side by side cross
bars welded above the horizontal dropouts. Those are important. — The frame is from a special limited production run.

This frame is made of my favorite material, cromoloy steel. That gives it a bit of give
when you hit a hard something. — Here are the frame specifications.

I have ridden this great bike over 2K miles now out here in Yuma, Arizona. I am going
to do some upgrades on it this fall and update the front motor for a Bafang unit from
Grin. Also, I will be building a side car for it this fall to transport my new big puppy, an
80 pound Carolina dog. That will be fun. Thanks for checking out this build. — Starting to look like an E-bike.

Note the 26” tires are mounted to very rare Sun 26” BMX doublewall welded rims. They
are solid aluminum and strong. Just right for this bike. The spokes are all 13 gauge Sapin
stainless spokes. — Starting to lay out the bike frame and parts to see intial fit.

The rear rack top is a poly plastic that is reinforced on the sides with stainless angle. The
rear of the rack was milled out to provide a hand hold and lift point. Plenty of tie off
points are provided. — The rear rack top.

The rear rack top has the turn signal electronics and battery connectors modularly
attached to the underside of the rack. — Underneath the rear rack top the electronics are attached.

The rack top has been milled down a quarter inch to allow the rear bag to sit flat for the
seat cushion to go on top. — The rear bag is custom set into the rack top.

This is the inside layout of the battery pods. On the left end exterior is the rear turn
signal light. In the middle is the All-Cell 48V 13A Lithium battery. On the right are the
basic on/off control and digital indicator wiring. — The right side battery pod.

The front of the battery pods contain an On/Off switch for that Pod and a digial voltage
ilndicator. Also located there is an XLR charge port. Note the Pod attachment bolts
coming out of the right side of the Pod. This is how the Pods are attached to the bike
securely. — The front of the battery pods.

The battery pods are welded aluminum boxes with aluminim sheet metal covers. The
side wall of the pods with the exposed attachment bolts is re-inforced. With 3 stainless
machine bolts to attach each pod they have remained secure and unmoving. — The Battery Pods are being attached to the bike frame.

The Battery Pods are secured with the rear fender using the same bolts. The battery pods
will later have non slip material applied to the top surface to help the rear passenger to
be more secure on the bike. — The Battery Pods are attached to the frame.
