Solar Trike that I have named Hitchers Guide.

Wellington, New Zealand

|

135

After a knee accident a few years ago I found I could not ride for more than a few kilometres per day but wanted to go further. I have fitted the trike and trailer with 480 watts of solar, a Bafang motor which I like to control with the Phaserunner and Cycle Analysts and other parts I have got from Grin Tech.

I am currently making a support for my left leg and will be peddling with the right leg. I plan on riding the length of New Zealand, from Cape Reinga in the north to Bluff in the south this summer as a test run, a distance of about 2,500 kilometres. If all goes well I am inclined to cycle across Australia from Brisban to Perth the following year. Who knows I may not stop there but continue my journey home the long way around heading west.

The trike meets all the guidelines set for The Suntrip and was inspired by Justin and Anne-Sophie's 2018 Solar Ebike Suntrip Ride from France to Iran.
