It was on Nov 30th 2025 that we were officially incorporated as “The Renaissance Bicycle Company” by a handful UBC classmates who thought motorizing bikes and skateboards was the the most fun thing ever. It was a time when ebikes as a thing were still mostly unheard of, and the early adoption was primarily driven by DIYers with an eye for the future, and we wanted to make more parts available for those enthusiasts.

We had no idea where things would lead to in 5 let alone 20 years, but it’s fun to reflect on that journey and the many forks it’s taken. Over that time our core mission of designing and supplying parts for DIY electric vehicle builds has been unwavering, even as the global movement has gone massively mainstream.

Why are we doing this?

As we step into our 3rd decade, we’re going to pivot away from carrying a wide assortment of hub motors from all different vendors to just focusing on Grin’s own All-Axle motor lineup. Already almost 80% of our customers are already choosing the All-Axle motor over the alternatives, and it makes sense to now focus exclusively on that.   

At the same time, our supply of powerful high temperature magnets to make more All-Axle hubs has hit some snags recently with all the chinese rare earth export limits.  So it is useful for us to moving more of these other motor models for a while :-)
