Customize Grin Rear All-Axle SuperH High Voltage Kit

The rear motor is available in 3 different winding speeds but generally speaking for 72V operation the slow winding is the most optimal one to use in order to keep phase currents minimized.  

The new V3 rear model comes with a built-in torque sensing freehub. The Shimano HG spline is the standard, while the the SRAM XD freehub option permits the use of high-end 1x cassettes with small 10T cogs. If no torque sensing is required then use the lower cost PAS only model. 
Statorade is recommended if you anticipate using the motor on lots of hills or in cargo applications
There are a range of axle adapters available for different quick release and thru-axle fork standards.

You can get a bare hub and lace it into a suitable 32 hole rim yourself, or choose to get a professional wheelbuild done here at Grin using our stock rim selections and quality Sapim butted spokes.  Our head wheelbuilder Robert has decades of experience and is renowned for building wheels that are nearly bombproof.

If you want Grin to do the wheelbuild, be sure to select either the Silver or Black spoke option from the dropdown menu, along with your preferred rim. By default all wheels will be be dished with the rim dead center between the dropouts, if you require some special dishing offset for an oddball frame please mention that in the order comments. If you are doing your own wheelbuild into your own rim, be sure to specify the required spoke length in the order  comments

At the moment the only 72V compatible controller that Grin offers is our Phaserunner. This mounts easily to the bicycle frame tubing and supports peak phase current of up to 90A, with continuous current of 45-50A.

Several display options are available to show basic information like bicycle speed, motor power, trip distance etc. through communication with the motor controller. The displays also provide the on/off power switch for the system and have up/down buttons to cycle through between 3 to 9 levels of pedal-assistance.

Throttles, ebrake levers, pas sensors, and torque sensors all play a roll in how you interact with the ebike. The Torque or PAS sensor plugs in directly to the motor controller and provide assistance based on the assist level of the display, while throttle and ebrakes hook up to the Main9 Superharness. If you are confused about the PAS and Torque sensor options, please see our pedal sensor info page.  Even if you choose a PAS or Torque sensor as the primary control, we always recommend having a throttle as well. It can be handy to accelerate in tight situations and is great as a back-up if ever the pedal sensor has issues.

Most 72V batteries you find are rectangular packs held together by shrinkrwrap, but we've got some options for 72V batteries with proper molded enclosures that fit on your downtube or inside your frame triangle. 

There are a number of optional electronic and mechanical accessories that can help flush out the build. This includes front and rear bike lights, phone chargers, wire management, programming cables, and what have you.

Grin All-Axle rear hub motor SuperH Conversion kit with your choice of UART display, battery pack, and PAS/Torque sensor options. This system includes a Phaserunner motor controller that is compatible with 72V battery packs who have specific reasons to want a high motor RPM and/or 72V operation. Usually we recommend 52V or lower packs for greater flexibility in battery choice. 

  • Motor works with both 12mm thru axle and regular quick release slotted dropouts by selection of the right insert and weighs just over 4kg.
  • Features 0.35mm laminations.
  • Statorade injection port.
  • L10 connector with internal thermistor.
  • V3 Motor includes a torque sensing freehub with an extension cable reaching right up to the Cycle Analyst.
  • Options for either standard Shimano HG or SRAM XD Cassette driver. 
  • Torque based assistance control and backpedal regen with no additional sensors to install.
